Valheim Boss Order and Strategies: All Eight Forsaken
Every Valheim Forsaken in order with summoning items, weaknesses and resistances, plus the preparation and failure points that decide each fight.

Valheim’s Forsaken run Eikthyr → The Elder → Bonemass → Moder → Yagluth → The Queen → Fader → Kall Fimbulbringer, matching the Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountain, Plains, Mistlands, Ashlands and the 1.0 addition Deep North. Each fight starts by finding that biome’s summoning item and offering it at the altar. What actually decides the outcome is damage type: hit the weakness first and bring matching resistance food and gear — stacking raw defense usually runs out before the boss does.

How bosses are found and summoned
Boss locations are not random one-offs: reading a runestone in the matching biome marks that boss’s altar on your map, and every boss has multiple spawn sites. Offer the summoning item at the altar to start the fight. “I can’t find the boss” almost always means “I have not read the right runestone yet.”
The first two fights: Eikthyr and The Elder
Eikthyr is the easiest fight and the most important one to prepare for properly, because it is where you learn how food, shields and stagger interact. Chip it down at range with a bow and watch for the lightning area attack.
The Elder is about arena control and adds. It is weak to fire, so fire weapons and fire arrows pay off, and its root attacks punish anyone standing in front of it.
The mid-game pair: the biggest resistance swings
Bonemass is the first fight that forces a gear change: it is weak to blunt and frost and resists fire, pierce and slash. A club, frost arrows and poison resistance mead beat a good sword here.
Moder is the first fight that forces an environmental answer: build frost-resistant gear before you climb the Mountain. It is weak to fire and immune to frost, so fire is the cheapest damage type, and you still need stamina in reserve for its dive attacks.
The late fights: Yagluth, The Queen, Fader
- Yagluth resists fire and pierce, so fire weapons are near useless and you need a different damage type;
- The Queen resists pierce and is immune to spirit, so you rebuild around resistances;
- Fader resists pierce and is immune to fire and spirit. It has the largest health pool in the game, so supplies matter more than gear.
The 1.0 finale: Kall Fimbulbringer
Deep North is the eighth biome added in 1.0, and its Forsaken is Kall Fimbulbringer. As of this page’s verification date, Iron Gate has not published its summoning criteria or phase mechanics, so only the confirmed name and biome are listed here.
Loot and Forsaken Powers
Every Forsaken drops a unique trophy. Take it back to the Sacrificial Stones at your spawn to unlock that boss’s Forsaken Power and switch between unlocked powers. Eikthyr’s power, for example, cuts stamina use for running, jumping and swimming. Killing a boss also raises world difficulty — that is the normal cost of progress.
The 1.0 achievement warning
Achievements start counting from the moment you download version 1.0. Even if you killed Eikthyr 500 times in Early Access, you must kill it again for the achievement. Separately, using most developer commands (such as spawn) flags your character and world save and permanently locks achievements.
What media and players say about the finale
- Postmode (2026-09-08) notes that Deep North gives the game an official ending, and that the final boss is gated more by its summoning criteria than by the encounter itself, with the run closing out through the Aesir Passage and several new dungeon types.
- PCGamesN (2026-09-08, 8/10) calls Deep North “one of the single greatest areas I’ve experienced in gaming,” while saying the road there “will take days.”
- IGN (2026-09-08, 10/10) reached Deep North playing solo.
All three reinforce the point this page keeps making: the thing that stops you is usually the summoning prerequisite, not the fight.
Media verdicts are reviewer opinions, not official statements, and reviewers disagree on difficulty.
Version and limits
- This page targets Valheim 1.0 (released 2026-09-09).
- Boss health and resistance values are community data that shift between patches; positioning and tactic detail is player experience, not official mechanics.
- Deep North’s summoning and phase mechanics are unpublished, so no walkthrough is inferred here.
- Some third-party guide pages last updated in 2022 list only six bosses and should not be used as a source.
