Valheim Platforms and Crossplay: Is Valheim on PS4?
Every platform Valheim 1.0 supports, what the PS4 situation actually is, how far crossplay goes, and the single cross-platform save exception.
Valheim 1.0 supports Steam on Windows, Linux and macOS, the Mac App Store, the Humble Store, the Windows Microsoft Store, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The PS4 is not supported — Iron Gate never announced a PS4 version, and 1.0 added the PS5 and Switch 2 instead. Multiplayer is crossplay across all platforms, but cross-platform saves work in exactly one case: an Xbox player reading their save from a Microsoft Store copy on PC. Nothing else syncs.

Can you play Valheim on PS4
No. Neither the official 1.0 FAQ platform list nor the 2026-06-07 release date announcement includes the PS4:
“The release will hit PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as per usual, and now we’re also adding PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 to the roster.”
In other words, 1.0 added the PS5, not the PS4. Community claims that a PS4 version is coming have no official basis, and Iron Gate has published no future PS4 plan, so this page will not predict one.
How far crossplay actually goes
- Multiplayer: the official 1.0 FAQ states “Valheim will support crossplay between all platforms.” Everyone on a supported platform can play together.
- Saves: only Xbox → Microsoft Store PC can read the same save. Every other combination has no cross-platform sync.
- Player count: a world supports 1–10 players, including online co-op and player-hosted dedicated servers.
Choosing a platform
Judge it on three lines:
- Your hardware. If you only have a PS4 or a first-gen Switch, confirm there is no official version rather than assuming backwards compatibility.
- Where your friends are. Crossplay lets mixed groups play together, but if you want one save across devices, only Xbox and Microsoft Store PC will do it.
- Whether you need mods. 1.0 has no mod support on PC or console and no Steam Workshop. Community mods mean PC, with compatibility risk on you.

What media and players report per platform
- Postmode (2026-09-08) played the full game solo on a PS5 Pro and found the console version “feels great,” specifically calling out the new context wheels for consumables and equipment, and noting it looks good on a large screen.
- IGN (2026-09-08, 10/10) and PCGamesN (2026-09-08, 8/10) both reviewed the 1.0 release.
- Some Steam reviews still complain about 1.0 performance (“it barely runs a 60”), which shows the same game performs differently depending on the device.
That is one more line for your platform choice: besides crossplay and saves, check whether your device handles the performance you expect.
